Your data isn't flowing (and it's costing you money)
Deep Dive
Ever crafted the perfect abandoned cart email only to find half your customers never got it? It's probably not your copy or offer that failed. It's your integration setup.
You're not alone. I've seen revenue literally disappear through technical cracks. One client discovered they were missing 30% of cart abandonment triggers—a $12,000 monthly leak they hadn't spotted.
Here's what happens: Your marketing platform connects to your website, CRM, or shop through SDK, APIs or webhooks. These connections pass the customer data that fires your automations.
But connections break. Silently.
When they do, your data gets stuck between systems. Your abandoned cart flow never starts. Your post-purchase sequence never triggers. Your win-back campaign misses the right users.
The worst part? No error messages appear. Everything seems fine while revenue quietly drips away.
Your 15-minute integration health check
You don't need to be a developer to check your integrations. Try this simple process:
Create a test account and do key actions (sign up, browse products, add to cart).
Wait 15 minutes, then check your marketing platform. Did the profile show up? Do you see the right events?
Look at data quality. An "add_to_cart" event should have product details, timestamp, and cart value—not just the basic event.
Test your money-making flows by doing the trigger actions and checking if the emails arrive.
Write down any gaps between what should happen and what actually does.
A SaaS client recently found that trial signups from mobile devices weren't triggering their onboarding sequence, missing 17% of new prospects.
You can set up automatic alerts for key events. If the event counts are wayyy different than expected, you get notified. If that’s too much to set up, make it a monthly/quarterly habit or doing this health check.
The four common integration failures
Most integration problems fall into these categories:
Timing Mismatches: Your shop expects instant responses, but your marketing platform processes in batches.
Field Mapping Errors: Critical fields have different names between systems. Your store uses "customer_id" but your marketing platform wants "user_id."
Authentication Expiration: API keys or tokens expired, and the connection silently fails.
SDK Implementation Issues: Your mobile app or website SDK is outdated or not set up correctly, so events don't fire properly.
Once you know which problem you have, the fix is usually straightforward.
Your Action Plan
Map your data touchpoints. List every place customer data exists, and should flow between systems.
Test each key integration using the steps above.
Check credentials first for any failures. Most fixes involve refreshing API keys or permissions.
Update any outdated SDKs that might be causing tracking gaps.
Document how everything connects so your team understands the setup.
The best automations are useless if your data isn't flowing right. Take 15 minutes today to check your integrations. You might find revenue hiding in plain sight.
What will you test first? Signup flow? Cart abandonment? Pick your most important journey and start there.
What’s new in Lifecycle?
Braze adds RCS messaging and on-site banners - RCS creates chatbot-like experiences in SMS with buttons, carousels, and rich media (rolling out now)
Salesforce acquiring Informatica for $8B - This has been a topic of debate in the SF community. Some say it creates the ultimate "AI data factory," while critics worry about another expensive acquisition before fixing current platform issues (deal closes early 2027)
Salesforce beta-tests Agentforce Campaign Designer - AI builds campaigns for you, plus WhatsApp now works in Journey Builder (Spring '25 rollout)
Braze acquires OfferFit - OfferFit has been building a multi-agent solution that recommends individualized cross-channel customer journeys in partnership with customer engagement solutions like Braze. This is an interesting acquisition given Braze has been focused on building their own AI tool codenamed “Project Catalyst”. It’ll be interesting to see how these two products will co-exist.
